June at Dunnerholme
June is always a crowded month for fixtures, and because May had been such unseasonable weather, there were re-arranged matches and competitions to add to the June Calendar. The month in general was ” good golfing weather”, and in the end, turned out to include about ten days of “Summer”.
The Helme Cook, Gents Seniors Open, which should have been in May took place on June 25th which was one of the ten lovely warm Summer Days.
The Winners were –
First A. Bowden and R. Moore. 43 pts
Second I. Jones and M. Barrett. 43 pts
Third. B. Houliston and J. Style 42 pts
There was a bevy of Two’s –
M. Barrett, A. Rooney, R. Moore, S. Knott,
J. Harris, F. Manchon, A. Bolton and S. Wall.
The Ladies Team competed in the Cumbria County One Day Team Event on the 13th at Penrith. There were 20 County Teams taking part, conditions were tough with squally rain and wind, especially in the afternoon.
Dunnerholme were a creditable 12th tied with Ulverston in the Gross Results. The Individual Nett prize (100 competitors) was won by Liz Mumberson of Cockermouth, with Dunnerholme’s Angie Hill finishing in joint Third with 71 Nett, well played Angie.
On June 22nd the Annual running of the Panama Team Open took place. The Format was a Waltz. It was a full field and the course looked and played well.
The winning team for The 2024 Panama Open was –
2nd – Alan Foxon, Gary Foxon, Ivor Broome and Dave Kavanagh.
Third – Tyron Currie, John Walker, Steven Braithwaite and Stan Alexander.

The golfing schedule for the Dunnerholme Ladies Silver and Bronze Teams was very crowded, with so many matches having to be re-arranged because of the excessive rain through May.
The Three Counties team lost at Home to Carus Green, followed by a Home win and an Away loss at Windermere.
The Silver Team won at Home against Kendal ladies after an Away loss and July has started well with a Home win against Keswick ladies.
The Bronze team played Workington Home and Away, honours even, as the Homeside won on each occasion. Similar results against Carlisle Ladies with 3/2 win at Home after a 2/3 loss away. The Bronze team has just one more match to complete this season’s League fixtures, away at Windermere on 5th July – good luck Ladies.
The end of the month saw the 2024 Competition for the Route Trophy.
Carol Campbell from Grange Fell, launched the Route trophy in 2016, for all the Nine/ten hole clubs in the County, and Dunnerholme have been in the winners circle three times in its history, and were very keen to win it back from Grange Fell who carried off the trophy in 2023.
This year it was the turn of Sedbergh to host the Competition. The Dunnerholme Ladies reclaimed the Route Trophy with 126 points.

The Dunnerholme Men went to Kirkby Lonsdale for Mr. Captain’s away day. It was a perfect golfing day, and the golf and hospitality at Kirkby Lonsdale was much appreciated . The Captain’s Charity.
