Wonderful Weekend of Golf at Dunnerholme

It was an early start on Saturday for the teams playing in The Panama Charity Open.
96 competitors in total teed off in teams of four, donning their Panama Hats, homage to the late Mr. Brian Readett.
The prevailing south westerly wind made the golf interesting, and the dry conditions gave plenty of run on the fairways. The Greens were good, and had certainly benefited from the intense programme of verticutting and spraying during May, a credit to the Greens staff. The full field meant the teams were out on the course for longer, but the glorious sunshine and course conditions added to the enjoyment, and it was reflected in some very creditable scores.
The honours, this year went to a team of Ladies, Lynne Diggle, Dunnerholme, Hazel Dixon, Ulverston. Mary McPortland, Ulverston and Sarah Harrison, Ulverston. Their Score 95 points.
Second Place Paul and Chris Burton and Martin and Larraine Morrison of Dunnerholme with 91 points, and third the Don’s Captain Roy Harris’s team, with Ian Young, Andrew Slater and Will McIntyre.
There were 4 twos, Geoff Pearce, Steve Tippett, Mark Tyson and Gary Foxon. Nearest the Pin on the 14th was won by Mark Tyson.

The Furness Support Group for Prostate Cancer were down at the club, and had brought along lots of informative leaflets to encourage people to get tested, and to offer advice and answer any questions. A contribution from the Panama competition this year will be donated to the Charity. Furness support Group for Prostate Cancer.
